The "Digger"-themed cake is one I have been wanting to make. Naturally I was very happy when asked!
This is the grown-ups' Black Beauty Cake on the inside, with a construction going about on top.
The adult part of the cake is moist chocolate layers sandwiched with dark chocolate meringue buttercream, frosted with dark chocolate fudge frosting on the outside. The defining element of this cake lies in the luscious fudge frosting, the least sweet of frostings. It doesn't hurt that it is so gorgeously dark and smooth.
The kiddy part of the cake is all au naturel in the colour department. I stand by not using any nasty petroleum-laden food colouring in my bakes despite it being so much easier to drop a drip or two of food colouring than to tease colour out of natural food. "Sand" and "soil" are made from Danish Butter Cookies and Korova Sables respectively.
Builder toy toppers are for illustration only and will not be included. Do let me know which mini machines you will like to use on the cake and I can try to adapt the "job site" accordingly.
Now, this is one cake that will please both young and old!
